CHARLOTTE — The Diocese of Charlotte commemorates its 50th anniversary in 2022. The Most Rev. Peter J. Jugis, the fourth Bishop of Charlotte and a native North Carolinian, offered a Mass to open the jubilee anniversary year, on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at St. Patrick Cathedral in Charlotte, N.C.

Founded on Jan. 12, 1972, the Charlotte diocese has become one of the fastest growing in the United States today. In thanksgiving for God’s many blessings on the People of Western North Carolina, the anniversary year has been placed under the patronage of Mary, Mother of God and is themed “Faith More Precious Than Gold” (1 Peter 1:7).
