CHARLOTTE — In celebration of the Oct. 4 Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and ecology, parishes throughout the diocese hosted Blessings of Animals. The festivities are even more meaningful this year as we celebrate the Jubilee Year of St. Francis.

More than 100 pets and their owners gathered at St. Matthew Church for the annual Blessing of the Animals, celebrating the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Father Herbert Burke led the blessing near the parish’s statue of St. Francis, welcoming a lively assortment of dogs, cats, and even several birds.
