Nuns buried a medal of St. Joseph on a four-acre tract of land in Kings Mountain in the early 1960s and 20 years later – March 19, 1981 – that same land was purchased to build the current church. It was dedicated on Nov. 29, 1983 – the feast day of Christ the King. Today, the mission has 16 registered families, making it one of the smallest faith communities in the diocese.
