Each year during the Chrism Mass, the bishop blesses three types of holy oils that are then transported to every church in the diocese, where they are used in sacraments throughout the year. Through the oil he blesses, the bishop is symbolically present at every baptism, confirmation and anointing of the sick. These oils are also used at the ordination of priests and for the consecration of churches and altars.
