112125 acolytesCINCINNATI — Three seminarians from the Diocese of Charlotte were installed into the Ministry of the Acolyte by Archbishop Robert G. Casey of Cincinnati Nov. 19.

Mark Becker, from St. Matthew in Charlotte, Mateo Perez, from St. Francis of Assisi in Lenoir, and Matthew Stanley, from St. Mark in Huntersville, along with four other seminarians studying at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Ohio, took this step.

Acolytes are entrusted with the duties of attending to the altar, assisting the deacon and priest at Mass, and distributing Holy Communion as an extraordinary minister.

Ministry of the Acolyte is one of three formal steps required by the Church to being ordained a transitional deacon and later into the priesthood.
