CHARLOTTE — Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte celebrated World Refugee Day June 20 with fun activities and giveaways for young and old alike.
Participants, resettled to the U.S. in partnership with federal government, walked away with toys, activity books, personal and household products, and nonperishable foods. Children got to visit a book mobile and enjoyed an ice cream truck, face painting, soccer and games.
Elite Touch Cleaning Services sponsored the ice cream truck and the face-painting booth.
“These families have been through so much turmoil, fleeing war and other violence in their homelands,” said refugee resettlement director Laura Jones, “that it’s meaningful to Catholic Charities to be able provide a little relief, as Jesus asks of everyone.”
