Serving Christ and Connecting Catholics in Western North Carolina
Prince of Peace RobbinsvilleMission of Holy Redeemer Church, Andrews

704 Tallulah Road, Robbinsville

Mass: 8:30 a.m. Sunday

Catholicism was still largely misunderstood by the majority of the locals in the 1950s when Prince of Peace started, with only one Catholic family living in Robbinsville, and the Glenmary Home Missioners worked to become part of the community and share the faith. The Robbinsville mission remains one of the diocese’s smallest faith communities, with 17 registered families.

Bishop Vincent S. Waters of Raleigh purchased the present property for Our Lady of the Mountains in July 1945. Before the church was built five years later, local Catholics gathered with priests from Waynesville for Masses in a playhouse theater in Highlands. Now, Our Lady of the Mountains is the diocese’s largest mission, with approximately 275 registered families who are either full-time or seasonal members. The church also welcomes numerous visitors and vacationers attracted to its beautiful, peaceful mountain community year-round.
