NEW YORK -- The Charlotte Catholic Honors Choir, directed by Choral Director Ms. Dottie Tippett, has spent the last few months preparing for their New York debut at Carnegie Hall.

All their hard work showed as they took the stage and performed on March 19 to a full house in the Isaac Stern Auditorium on the Ronald O. Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The sixty-four students travelled to New York City for the weekend to rehearse selections under the direction of Conductor Dr. Lynne Gackle. Dr. Gackle is the Associate Professor of Ensembles and Associate Director of Choral Activities at Baylor University. The CCHS Choir combined with 150 other High School choral students from around the United States to form the National Youth Choir.

The Students performed five selections: Te Deum – W.A. Mozart; The Ground, from Sunrise Mass - Ola Gjeilo; Vox Populi - Giedrius Svilainis; I am in Need of Music - David Brunner, and Let Everything That Hath Breath - Jeffery l. Ames.

The students in Charlotte Catholic's two Choral Honors classes were invited to join the National Choir after winning two First Place- Gold Awards last spring from Field Studies /Heritage Foundation while performing in Orlando, Florida. The competition last spring was open to high school choirs throughout the United States. Performance material had to be selected from a specific contest list. Students had to learn and rehearse the selections, and perform in front of a panel of adjudicators. Awards were given to the top performers.
