CONCORD — Children of St. James the Greater Church in Concord brought their school backpacks and received a blessing from Redemptorist Father Joseph Dionne Aug. 21 during Mass.

In conjunction with the "Backpack Blessing," parishioners also collected school supplies and donations to benefit Cabarrus County's Cooperative Christian Ministries program and Women and Children's Ministry, a housing facility for homeless mothers and children.
