Parishioners at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Charlotte took part in a pilgrimage and veneration of more than 100 saints’ relics over last weekend, in conjunction with Masses for All Saints Day Nov. 1.

The special evening was an opportunity to learn more about and venerate saints including St. John Vianney, St. John Neumann, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein), St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and more.

Each year, as part of their First Holy Communion Sacrament preparation, the students come to school dressed as a saint.

But it is more than a costume project, the children also research their saint, learn about their saint, and then come to a special All Saints Day votive Mass to complete the project.

The answered ranged from St. Rose of Lima being beautiful and then disfiguring herself so her only focus would be on God to St. Francis of Assisi being about more than animals in the forest but rather giving up everything to follow God.

St. John the Evangelist high school youth group, with the help of parishioners, sponsored Trunk or Treat and a Saint party. After going car to car, youngsters were treated to Saint BINGO and other games. Everyone enjoyed pizza and drinks.
